Julian Alps
Harsh mountains with a cosmopolitan atmosphere. The JULIAN ALPS extend over Italian territory and in part over Slovenian territory. Therefore, we can divide them into the Western (the first part) and the Eastern the latter part. The Italian Julian Alps, which in comparison to the Slovenian Alps are steeper and inaccessible, rise in an area between the course of the River Fella (an affluent of the Tagliamento) and that of the Alto Isonzo . They are characterised by the impressiveness of the calcareous - dolomitic slopes and the wildlife of the territory on which they rise. The latter is full of a variety of morphologies fluvial, glacial and Karst. From the mighty Julian slopes is a succession of peaks scattered with grassy ledges alternated with compact or, otherwise friable rocky cliffs. The main peaks exceed 2500 metres, but never go beyond 2800 . Four elevations with woody summits that surround them and that represent just as many groups, which tower over the Western Julian Alps are: the Mangart (2,668 m) , Jof Fuart (2,666 m) , Jof di Montasio (2,753 m) and the Canin (2,587 m). Moreover, the latter, - a carbonate massif - forms one of the areas of greatest international interest for those who study the Karst phenomenon. Pages and pages have been written about mountaineering on these mountains. Another characteristic of the whole range of the Julian Alps are the valleys which, although they do not reach very high altitudes ( 600-800 m) , have a rather harsh winter climate. more at: www.tarvisiano.org

Fusine Lakes
The Fusine Lakes' basin is one of the most beautiful place of the region. The lakes of glacial origin, connected one with each other by easy paths, are good placed in the heard of a spruce fir wood and at the feet of a Mount Mangart mountain range. The ambient, where many animals and typical plants live, it changes with the seasons: the nature shows its infinite colours, painting the wood and the lakes with unique shades that make this place still more magical. source: www.turismofvg.it
