Contesa del Pozzo della Polenta" (Contention of the Well of Polenta)
is the historical re-enactment that takes place every year in July with the village crowded with jugglers, ladies, acrobats, flag wavers, and other Medieval-time characters.
The historical re-enactment takes place in memory of the victory of the siege of 1517: the story tells of the warm and sumptuous welcome that the population reserved for the Duke of Urbino Lorenzo de' Medici and his wife in 1517 following the victory against Francesco Maria della Rovere who , in an attempt to complete the conquest of the Marca against the State of the Church, had also set its sights on Corinaldo with a siege. Thanks to its walls, the courage of the inhabitants and the water reserves of the city well, despite experiencing highly dramatic moments, Corinaldo manages to resist so much that Francesco Maria della Rovere, realizing the impossibility of conquering it, decides to withdraw.
The re-enactment takes place over three days full of shows with the participation of groups of flag-wavers and musicians, a prize for archers, local games, a historic craft market, typical taverns, street artists, jesters and the magnificent historical procession.
